Short description:
In Kampong Speu's Aoral district 'Cardamom Mountains', lies the thousands of hectares great Kirirom National Park. A 75km long journey by van, takes you from 'Shangri-la' Voar Sar along extensive valleys definite with a distance sierra. Literally at the end of civilization you reach the start point of the trek. Here your adventure starts.

The evening before departure we can offer you a bed in our basic natural  dormitory for just $1.50 per person at DutchCo's 'Shangri-la'. DutchCo's 'Shangri-La' is tucked away in a small rural village of Voar Sar in a nice garden setting with a small café/bar. A night in our dormitory is already an unique experience itself. If you looking for more comfort, check out our rooms HERE. In Voar Sar you can experience life in the real Cambodian country side. You can explore the village and take a walk into the country site and enjoy a romantic sunset at the stung Prek Thnaot River just a 10 minute walk. The only foreigners you might run into are DutchCo' guests. Our café offers you a basic menu with a choice of good Asian and Western dishes.

How to get here

If you don't have lots of time and you like to submerge into the jungle around noon the day after you left Phnom Penh? Than this trek is far out your best option. Voar Sar is only 45kms south of Phnom Penh on highway No 4 to Sihanoukville. From the National Airport it's less than an hour drive. You can grab a public bus from which most of them departure from Psar They (Central market) several times a day. Your guest house is usually happy to organise a ticket for you and transport with a Motordop or tuktuk to the bus station. If you prefer to travel like the locals (cheapest option) you can grab a shared minivan. We can organise that for you. Day itinerary

08.30 am we leave from DutchCo’s ‘Shangri-la’ per minivan to KiriromIt's is a trip of 75km and takes around 90 minutes. Roads are in good condition year around. At the entrance check point of the park, $5.- entrance fee per persons has to be paid (not included in the trekking price).

From here it's around 15 minutes to the starting  point of the trek in a small village. Here you will be introduced to the park rangerThe first part of the trek you will be going uphill to reach a plateau. 


Here and during other parts of the trek, you can enjoy some beautiful panoramic views. You will walk on small tracks through beautiful forest. The guide will tell you about the forests and its wildlife. Around noon we have a break for lunch, coffee and/or tea.



After lunch we continue east. You will notice that the forests starts to change into a pine tree forests. This reveals an unexpected change of scenery.Depending on the season there are plenty of small streams to be crossed.

Around 3pm you will arrive at a beautiful lake. We stay there for a short while so you can relax and enjoy the view over the lake with the forests and some hills in the back. From here it’s an easy 20 minute walk to the pick-up point for the minivan. You will be back in Voar Sar around 5pm.
